The terms that apply to using AFCL Puzzles.

These terms cover AFCL Puzzles. By signing in and solving, you agree to them, and to the Africa Chess League’s own terms, which apply to your account across the league.

Reading and solving

The daily puzzle, the rankings and every solver’s page are open to anyone with no account. Solving a rated puzzle, keeping a rating and appearing on a leaderboard require signing in.

Your account

You sign in with your AFCL account, and you may only sign in with an account you own. One person, one account: solving under somebody else’s account, or keeping more than one account to inflate a rating or a streak, is grounds for having your puzzle record reset or removed.

Fair play

Solve the puzzles yourself. Using a chess engine, an analysis board or another person to find the move defeats the only purpose the rating has, which is to describe your own strength. Where we have good reason to believe a record was not set by the person it belongs to, we may remove it from the leaderboards.

Ratings and records

Your rating, streaks and statistics are computed from your own attempts and are provided as they are. We may recalculate, correct or reset records where a fault, an import error or a change to how the rating is calculated has made them wrong. A puzzle rating is a measure of your solving on this platform; it is not a chess rating, and it is not a FIDE or a Lichess rating.

Puzzle content

The puzzles are imported from the open Lichess puzzle database, released into the public domain by Lichess. AFCL is not affiliated with Lichess. The rest of this platform — its design, its text and its rankings — belongs to the Africa Chess League.

Availability

AFCL Puzzles is offered free of charge and without a guarantee of availability. We may change, suspend or withdraw any part of it, and we do our best to give notice when a change affects records people have built.
